I grew up in Edward Hopper’s hometown of Nyack New York in the Hudson Valley and was influenced by Hopper’s work and that of the Hudson River School painters. School trips were often to the New York City museums and I continued to regularly visit the museums when home from college and graduate school.\ While I have painted and drawn throughout my life knowing the difficulty of a career in art I earned a law degree and have made my career in public interest law and as a law professor.\ In college I studied painting with James Penney and while living in Baltimore I studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art with Louise Hennessey Philip Koch Stan Friedman and others. In recent years I have focused plein air landscapes in oil. Whether on our porch as a child or in the fields of Upstate New York I painted en plein air long before I had any idea what that meant.\
